Fetal rats exposed to cellular telephone fields in utero. This study explored the possible effects of digital cellular telephone (TDMA) files on ODC and AGT activity in the brain tissues of Fischer 244 rats exposed in utero. The researchers found no difference in ODC activity in exposed vs. unexposed animals. They reported an initial increase in cerebellular AGT activity in TDMA-exposed fetuses, decreased cerebellular activity in ENU/TDMA-exposed fetuses, but no change at all in AGT activity in the cerebrums of the same animals. Initial observations of changes were not confirmed in subsequent experimental runs, suggesting they likely were due to normal statistical variations. |
Additional Web NotesReaders should, in general, be wary of Motorola- or Nokia-funded research, but some has clearly been done by top biomedical researchers, as is the case above. However the abstracts from these studies are often written by Motorola's PR department, and the contracts sometimes place limitations on reporting. Some company-funded studies are difficult to judge in terms of credibility, and some are clearly dubious.
