Effect of GSM microwave exposure on blood-brain barrier permeability in rat Fritze K, Sommer C, Schmitz B, Mies G, Klessing M, Hossmann KA, Weissner C, Acta Neuropathologica 94: 465-470 1997 Motorola-funded Contractors: Max Planck Institute for Neurological Research, Cologne, Germany; and Institute for Neuropathology, Ruprecht Karis university, Heidelberg, Germany. This study investigate whether the RF exposures reference in the summary immediately above could cause alterations in the blood-brain barrier (BBB). The resarchers concluded there were no BBB-related changes at the SARs of 0.3 W/kg and 1.5 W/kg. A higher incidence of BBB effects was noticed at the SAR of 7.5 W/kg outside the range of exposures from portable communications devices operating within internationally recognized safety guidelines. The researchers said further studies would be necessary to confirm the results at 7.5 W/kg, evaluate their possible significance and assess the role such factors as stress and heating might have in producing such effects. |
